Google bygone apparent the world’s better breakthrough computer processor to date. Dubbed Bristlecone, it’s a 72-qubit gate-based superconducting system that blows the antecedent best, IBM’s 50-qubit processor, out of the water. The race to build the world’s first useful breakthrough computer is advancing its end.

According to a Google blog post:

If a breakthrough processor can be operated with low enough error, it would be able to beat a classical supercomputer on a categorical computer science problem, an accomplishment known as breakthrough supremacy.

Some experts accept this will happen at around 100 qubits, where a breakthrough system would apparently be more able than all the supercomputers on the planet. However, when it comes to breakthrough supremacy, size isn’t everything. As the Google advisers point out:
