At today’s Build event in Seattle, Microsoft appear a new affection for cross-device work called Timeline, which will let you pick up where you left off across PCs, phones, and tablets.

Windows will keep track of the user’s app history in a appropriate area to the Task Switcher called Timeline. You can either move back in time and select an app, or search for a accurate activity keyword. When you select an app on the Timeline and open it, the app will open to where you left off.

This doesn’t just work on Windows PCs. With Microsoft Graph, users can open apps they were using on iOS and Android devices, thanks to a timeline-aware Cortana. For example, if you close your computer while examination a accurate app, Cortana will pop up on your phone or tablet and ask you if you want to “Pick Up Where You Left Off.”

If the user does not have the same app installed on assorted devices, they will be prompted to install them by Cortana.
