Twitter says it has fixed a bug that resulted in a user’s almost area advice being shared with an bearding Cheep partner.

“We have apparent that we were aback accession and administration iOS area data with one of our trusted ally in assertive circumstances,” the aggregation said in a blog post.

According to the post, the bug only afflicted iOS users of its Cheep app who had a second annual on their phones. So if users had accustomed Cheep to access absolute area data on one account, the ambience would automatically be activated to the other account(s), even when they did not opt in to area data sharing.

Twitter also noted that the calm advice was then shared with a trusted accomplice for purposes of confined ads through a action called real-time bidding, but assuaged any aloofness apropos by advertence the area data was “fuzzed” to reduce its accurateness to the abutting zip code or city, and that the accomplice that aback accustomed the area data didn’t also accept their Cheep handle or unique annual identifier.

“We have accepted with our accomplice that the area data has not been retained and that it only existed in their systems for a short time, and was then deleted as part of their normal process,” it stated on the help site.

Although Cheep didn’t tell when the data administration took place, the social media company said it has already notified impacted users, and urged users to revisit their aloofness settings in light of the aegis incident.

It’s also worth noting that this aegis issue is Twitter‘s fourth bug in the past year.

Last September, a bug in Cheep API accidentally apparent clandestine letters and adequate tweets to developers not accustomed to read them.

In December, it notified that “state-sponsored actors” may have exploited a vulnerability in its online abutment form to obtain the country code of a user’s phone number and actuate whether or not the annual had been locked by Twitter.
